Fashion is a permanently fluctuating and fascinating industry with catwalk shows and product previews this year being the forefront of the latest trends waiting to be seen on the streets in the coming twelve months. Now we are past the first few weeks of 2013 it’s time to take a look at the fashion trends that will be influencing the way we dress in 2013.

Many of the big hitters during the 2012 shows opted for bold, statement graphics. Wide stripes and tessellated geometric patterns were everywhere, from Marc Jacobs and Armani to Louis Vuitton, in jackets, dresses, trousers and accessories.
The other significant pattern trend was for floral designs. Be they in understated detail or a bold decoration, the trend for floral motifs by the likes of Prada and Moschino are likely to influence the similar natural themes that will hit the high street in time for Spring – which is kind of apt, really.
2013 in terms of colour is going to be pretty bright. Lemon, emerald and nectarine are key trends but if you don’t want to glow in such neon colours consider opting for a pair of shoes or handbag. Similarly make up is seeing a bright future with bold, bright eye shadow in neon shades tipped to becoming quite popular.
Brightest colour of the all (although not actually a colour) white is at the other end of the spectrum fashion-wise. The perfect choice for the summer collections, white was everywhere from Jil Sander to Victoria Beckham. Short skirts with a crisp blouse or long, floating, pleated layers are styles to look out for.
Mulberry Willow Bag
Kate Moss has been seen pretty much everywhere with her preview model of Mulberry’s Willow bag, and it is sure to be the must-have accessory when it is released to general sale early in 2013. A tote bag, the genius move was to put a detachable clutch bag on the front. You can easily transform it from a handy, daytime hold all to a sophisticated evening handbag by unzipping it. With a faux crocodile skin texture and produced in a range of colours, this will be the bag of the year.
Simple and elegant, but with a dash of sexiness, the pencil skirt is a must for both day and evening wear. Wear in the season’s bold neon colours to really make a statement, or opt for a more demure floral pattern to stay on trend.
Stitched details of dragons, hibiscus flowers and birds of paradise decorated kimono-style tops and dresses in collections by Prada and John Galliano. Expect to see a lot of Eastern flavour on the high street next year.
Primarily for evening wear, iridescents were another popular trend at the 2012 catwalk shows. Shimmering fabrics and sequined details were spotted at Alberta Ferretti, Viktor & Rolf and Louis Vuitton, among others.
From Gucci to Moschino, designers were looking back to the swinging sixties for inspiration in 2012. Tapping into the sprit of style icons like Edie Sedgwick and Twiggy, the high hems and geometric look of the era made a resurgence for the year’s catwalk shows. Combined with this year’s bright neon colours, this will be a big look in 2013, particularly during the summer.
When it comes to outwear in 2013, you can’t ignore the resurgance in popularity of the much fated bomber jacket. Chanel and Stella McCartney were among the designers giving new life to this classic jacket which was often paired with other key trends, such as floral decals, bold geometric patterns or neon colouring. So, seek out one, two or more of these key trends, and you will be sure to stay eminently fashionable in the year ahead.
